What is Your Dream?
Tomorrow, if you can live your dream, what is it? I mean, picture this; you go sleep tonight and when you open your eyes in the morning, you are living your dream. What does it look like? What is your life dream?
Recently, a friend of mine asked a few of us about our life dreams. She honed in on one specific person (thank goodness it wasn’t me, as I would later find out I had no clear vision!) He wasn’t quick to respond but he knew what he didn’t want, as most of us do. Things like: I don’t want to be alone, I don’t want to struggle, I don’t want to have stress… Yes, sounds good, but what do you actually want? You know what I mean? The question was and always is “What is your dream in life?” not “What do you not want to be part of your life dream?” It sparked a conversation, and later a lot of contemplation. Do you know what your dream life looks like?
Draw it out, describe it as a book, see it on the big screen
Take some time and really reflect and deliberate on what it looks like. Remember that no dream is too outrageous nor is it too small.
You know when someone is describing a story, a movie, an art exhibit, whatever, and you are all in and fully committed to the dialogue? I mean you’re leaning forward, elbows on your knees, hands together, head nodding, and you envision it like you have seen it before or even better, lived it? THAT is how you talk about your life dreams, my friends. Describe it with every detail, big or small, add color to it and adjectives you have never used before. Make it your own!
Reframe Your Mind to Speak and Think in the Positive
The Universe says “Ok, so what can I get you?” And you say “Well, I definitely don’t want another energy-sucking partner.” The Universe does not hear negatives. Meaning, you just got yourself another energy-sucker knocking at your door. With just a quick little mind reframe you will hear yourself saying “I’d like a very energetically balanced partner to complement my life.” BOOM! In walks Mr./Ms. Energetically Balanced…
Here are some helpful examples on turning a negative statement into a positive one:
I don’t want to be alone – I want to share my life with someone
I don’t want to be stressed – I want to live stress-free
I don’t want to deal with another dead-end job – I want to feel acknowledged at a job that offers growth opportunities and a happy future.
I don’t want to starve – I want to have an abundance of money to live a healthy life.
Declare Your Dream With Fervor
When you have mapped out your dream life, begin to act it out, talk about it fully in the positive and then stand tall and declare it with all the fervor in your soul! You can make a dream board with all the details or write it down and read it every day. Say it out loud with confidence, like when you know you just aced a test. Remember Ralphie in The Christmas Story asking for a Red Ryder BB gun? He knew what he wanted and envisioned it constantly. He used the phrase “I want” and didn’t care if everyone thought he would shoot his eye out. Ralphie yelled it out with all of his heart to Santa Clause and the Elves as they stood and laughed in his face. And then what happened folks? He got his bb gun. Boom.
Avoid Misconceptions
I’ve talked to many people who believed that their dream would bring them ultimate happiness. As we all know, ultimate happiness doesn’t last in every moment of every single day. There are hard times, failures, and struggles that for some become the means to an end. For others, they become the means towards growth and success. It’s your choice. There are many types of dreams: daydreams, romantic dreams, bad dreams, career dreams, or material dreams. Believing that all of these dreams will only bring you happiness is a misconception. Happiness is a way of life that lies inside of YOU and also a constant journey. For this reason, I will repeat, that expecting your daydream or romantic dream to give you the happiness that you have been looking for is a misconception.
I am not saying that visualizing and declaring your dreams is what it will take for them to magically appear in front of you. It’s just the first part followed by desire, persistence, hard work, and a plan. For now, I am simply saying to identify it, clarify it, and visualize it. Think and Grow Rich is an incredible book with a beautiful break down on achieving your dreams along with compelling examples of influential people throughout history. Do not be swayed by the title. It has nothing to do with money, but yet everything to do with money. 🙂
The newest item on my to-do list is to clarify what my dream life looks like. Therefore, I’m going to follow all of the steps above and continue re-reading Think and Grow Rich. I think you should all do it with me.
P.S. IT DOESN’T MATTER HOW OLD OR YOUNG YOU ARE! 🙂
