I pinned this on my Pinterest Board a while ago and let me tell you, I keep getting those darn emails that tell you who is pinning what (which I really need to switch off btw) and it’s almost ALWAYS this quote. This is a sure sign that so many of us are searching for ways to let go and create space.  We all want to let go of the things, the people, the situations, the conversations, the STUFF that just doesn’t serve us and takes up all of this much-needed space in our minds. The much-needed space that is for things that we want to actually manifest! I mean, we aren’t trying to manifest something that has already happened or that we are afraid of because that would be impossible, right? But it sure seems like that is what we are doing sometimes.

FACT: No two physical objects can occupy the same space at the same time.

It’s pure basic physics people. We can choose to let go of physical clutter that piles up high in our physical space in exchange for freedom and tranquility but what about our mental clutter? Why do we forget the fact that we can’t have a positive thought and a negative thought at the same time? It seems so easy to say or think “just let it go.” Great, I’ll let it go, but what happens when I grab onto it again? Ahhh!

There are some steps you can take that can inspire the art of letting go and that will place you on the train headed to the Freedom City! And along with that trip, you will have room for completely brand new things to enter your life. How cool is that?

Move Out of the Giant Mansion in Your Mind

Ok, your mind is a giant mansion filled with all sorts of wonderful things and at the same time, holds even more not so wonderful things. You know what I mean? I’m talking old, dusty boxes pushed back in cabinets, basements, and storage spaces that are filled with half broken, faded, ugly stuff. Once you get rid of all of this gross matter taking up space, you look around and realize you have a half-empty mansion. Now what? Do you spend money and energy on filling up the other half of the space or do you spend time appreciating all the beauty and positivity in the half you have left? How about you do this: MOVE OUT. Get a smaller space to hold all the gorgeous things you have surrounding you at a closer distance so you can give them attention. You feel me?

Declutter the Mansion Before You Move Out

As you declutter, you will let go of all past memories that aren’t serving you at all. If it doesn’t inspire happiness or a positive emotion, then why keep it in a dusty box? And if does inspire happiness or positivity, then again, why keep it in a dusty box?! All matter holds energy. So in your physical space, you are surrounded by all sorts of energies bouncing around and into each other trying to take reign. Why not let the positive ones hold reign together?

Start with the mindset that you are moving into a smaller, more quaint space and you can only bring the necessities to ensure serenity. What are those things?

Limit the Amount of Information Entering Your Daily Life

Dings, beeps, rings oh my! Too much information is overwhelming. You can’t file it in your mind fast enough and it can be stressful. It’s just like checking your mail after a month (I’ve been there plenty of times) and you have the shred pile, the file pile, the look at now pile, the save for later pile…I mean WHAT?!

  1. Clear your emails and unsubscribe to emails you don’t even read!
  2. Delete all the old phone numbers that you never use anymore (you can always hunt someone down nowadays, you’ll be fine)
  3. Limit news and online time
  4. Don’t watch shows that make you feel uncomfortable and anxious even if they are award-winning.
  5. Commit to going through mail and taking care of it right away. Like right then and there.

Make Decisions

For those that know me, yes, I struggle with making decisions. BUT, I have been extremely aware of it and making changes! Not making decisions leaves a decision floating around in your mind taking up space. Am I right? It also adds another element of stress to your day, which is never good. Close your eyes and feel what is right, then just do it, make the decision. Chances are it’s the right one.

Let Go of the Past

If you decluttered the mansion already then you are on the right track! Letting go of the past is hard, I get it, but the past has ALREADY HAPPENED.  Letting go of the past doesn’t necessarily mean to let go of only the bad moments of the past. Because you know what? Good moments that we hold on to can do some damage as well. Remember that guy that was homecoming king and the star athlete but now he’s overweight, unhealthy, and jobless? He’s probably holding on to the glory of the past. I mean, Bruce Springsteen wrote a song about it. He can’t believe that he used to be homecoming king and the star athlete and now he’s got nothing. What will everyone think? So holding a good memory is making him depressed when he can’t relive it. Yikes!

Write It All Down

A daily journal is so ideal, isn’t it? I am enamored by those that actually have been doing it consistently for years. Talk about clearing out your mansion! Keeping a journal can help you not only to let go, but also to see things or realities in a different light. If this isn’t your deal, you can also look into Morning Pages, which is a great way to take a few minutes in the morning and get all your thoughts and to-dos down on paper. When you are done, you tear it up and throw it away! It gets all the thoughts that are taking up space down and out of your brain and then POOF they are gone.

We all want to be happy, peaceful, free of anxiety, fear of fear and stress right? We also definitely want our minds to be full of positivity and have time for joyful habits so we can actually enjoy our lives, right? As you find your new little clutter-free home (mind space) choose to fill it with all things that serve YOU. It’s a process, but it is well worth it.
