Transitions can be tough. Much like crossing a bridge, they transport you from one place to another. However, if we didn’t have them, we would be stuck in the same place forever! You know what I mean? The transition to Fall is the best time, for me, to get back into the swing of things, get organized, and get healthier. A clean body makes for a clearer mind, which in turn makes for a focused intention in all that we do. Who doesn’t want that?
Where Do I Start? Let’s Start With the Diet.
Don’t Freak Out. Becoming healthier isn’t the difficult conundrum it’s made out to be. You don’t have to start running every morning, end your coffee consumption, consume only salad, or become a vegetarian. (Although the last one would be awesome but I won’t push you…just yet!)
Pick One Thing: Caffeine. Sugar. Processed Foods. Meat. Alcohol. Dairy. Or maybe you have something in mind already. Which do YOU think will make your body feel better? Most importantly, what do YOU want to stop so you can transition to a healthier you?
Here is a list for starters, so you can see what it looks like…
- Caffeine – Coffee, Tea, Soda, Chocolate are the main culprits. Although you can buy decaffeinated versions…
- Sugar – actual sugar, soda, fruit juices, pastries, cookies, cakes, candy, white bread, ice cream, most breakfast cereals, granola bars, low-fat items, and flavored yogurts, alcohol because it turns into sugar basically.
- Processed Foods: Oh boy…Ok here goes… store-bought cereals, cookies, cakes, cheese, canned vegetables, bread, savory snacks, bacon-sausage-ham (and most other fancy meats and cold cuts), microwavable foods, ready-made foods, I’ll stop there.
Drink Water
I read a book about water once. I can’t remember what the book is called but it was FASCINATING. Apparently you need to drink half your weight in ounces. What? For example, if you weigh 160 pounds (72 Kilos) then you should drink 80 ounces (2 1/2 liters) of water per day. Yes, I know, you will pee a lot. But we are supposed to pee, therefore, keeping our liver healthy so it can break down fat and give you energy!
Pay Attention
Take notice, become aware, pay attention to what your body feels like after you eat in your current diet. After that, cut out something from your diet that you think may be causing you to not feel your best, wait at least a week, then try eating or drinking it again. But IMMEDIATELY stay in tune with how your body feels. Tired? Bloated? Itchy? Slothlike? Super Hyper? Jittery? Gassy? Yawny? Stuffy? Scatter Brained? Unfocused? Did you even think food or drink can make you feel all of these ways? There are more.

Remember the saying in school Stop, Drop, and Roll? If there was ever a fire, you were taught to think Stop, Drop, and Roll. Fires are serious business. You know what else is? YOUR HEALTH. So let us change that phrase to Stop eating what makes you feel like crap, drink water, open your eyes to the changes. That isn’t as short and concise. Hmmmm lemme see what I can do. Let’s pick an item and try it.
